DEADWOOD
I just wanted to recommend Deadwood to you all.
Goodnight.
Well, at least I taste better than shit.
J and I went to see Dave Gorman at the Sterts open-air theatre on Monday evening. As you can see from his wikipedia page, he's a very busy man. He's currently touring the UK with a stand-up comedy show, but he's cycling to each destination and will be visiting the most southern, eastern, western and northern points of the British mainland along the way.
If you haven't caught any of his previous work (or read his blog) then you're missing out on some absolute comedy genius.
If you get the chance to see his current show ("Sit Down, Pedal, Pedal, Stop and Stand Up" - tour dates here) you really should. And take some clean pants unless you don't mind sitting in your own laughterpiss for a couple of hours.
As many of you may already know, I'm not an avid book reader. In fact, the last book I read (John Gribbin - In Search of Schroedinger's Cat) was around 5 years ago. Oh wait, there's the Learn Norwegian books that I started reading a couple of years ago, but I never finished them. Anyway, it's not that I'm not a good reader, I just don't enjoy reading.
At least that's what I'd convinced myself after being forced in school to read through stories that I couldn't give a fuck about.
I like stuff that improves my brain though. And my latest purchase (Derren Brown - Tricks of the Mind) is FUCKING AWESOME. That's right, I used caps and bold text. That's how good this book is. And I'm only on the Memory part!
I've learned a technique to remember lists of stuff, and while I could only remember 7 or 8 items from a list of 20 random objects before, I can now confidently say I could memorise the whole list. And recite it in reverse if asked. Fucking aye!
I'm now reading into the Loci system, memory palaces and the peg system for remembering numbers.
If you want to make your brain more awesome, get this book now.
