It is the day Joan of Arc was captured by the Burgundians. Captain William Kidd was hanged in London. Himmler commited suicide. 26 sailors were killed aboard the USS Squalus as it sank. Henrik Ibsen died after a series of strokes.

All very depressing, yes, but did you know it is also WORLD TURTLE DAY?*

To celebrate WORLD TURTLE DAY (and my 32nd birthday) there are doughnuts and cookies in the kitchen.** Enjoy!

* Had wikipedia not rejected my edits, it would also have been the day Louis Armstrong became the first man to trumpet on the moon.
